About Lily

Lily Arangio (she/her) is a senior from the San Francisco Bay Area. She got her start in activism at the first March For Our Lives in 2018 and has since participated in various movements. In May of 2020, the summer going into her Sophomore year of high school, Lily co-founded Empolitics.

Growing up, Lily attended an all-girls summer camp dedicated to getting more women into STEM. This experience allowed her to recognize the importance of an uplifting, empowering community and ultimately inspired her to create Empolitics.

Being involved with various movements -- from women’s issues to climate justice to gun violence prevention --, she’s interested in the intersectionality of all activist movements. In addition, Lily is passionate about tangible policy change and spread this passion through the Empolitics Virtual Policy Program, which she designed and led during the summer of 2021. To further implement this passion into Empolitics, she also ensures that the organization impacts public policy in a way that reflects it's core values and respects the boundaries of non-profit regulations.

Outside of Empolitics, Lily has impacted policy through her city council and state representative. She also is a part of the March For Our Lives San Jose lead team, where she advocates for gun violence prevention through community organizing and policy.

Lily enjoys catching up on Grey’s Anatomy and playing with her Golden Retriever in her free time.

Who do you look up to and why?

What do you want to do career-wise in the future?

What's one fun fact about yourself?

I look up to a lot of different people! Three of my biggest role models, though, are RBG, Emma Gonzalez, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Regardless of what one thinks of their politics, their power and resilience are undeniable -- and those are the qualities I admire in them.

In undergrad, I hope to study either political science/public policy or public health. I ultimately want to become an OB/GYN and open up my own non-profit that addresses health disparities specifically among women and the transgender community. Later in my career, I definitely hope to run for office!

One fun fact about myself is I used to live in Boston, Massachusetts! I lived there until I was 9 and still visit when I can. Most of my extended family still lives there.
