Submission from Dr. Rutuja Dhore on the pitiful condition of migrant laborers in India

Due to the lockdown, the predicament of migrant laborers in India is radically deplorable and poignant. India's profit-orientated industries have given them the bum's rush from their corresponding métier and eschewed their stipends of the past two months. With their livelihoods ransacked, wages withered, and exiguous access to basic amenities such as food, water, clothing, shelter, etc. in a volitionless manner, they had to leave their native villages barefoot paving a path to numerous lamentable mishaps. Although the government is keeping its nose to the grindstone to corroborate safe homecoming of the laborers, yet there are several potholes in the form of lack of awareness, high dates of the rail ticket, unavailability of essential documents, etc. The government, as well as the opposition, should not only asseverate condolences with the laborers' woeful condition but also assist them in bringing home the bacon. Financial support and packages are unequivocally appreciable, but along with this, there must be affirmation and indemnification. The government ought to exhibit sangfroid in tackling the situation. Since the entire globe is about to hold a vexatious economic recession, laborers' conditions could remain the same in the long run. Their perished sources of livelihood need to flourish, or they ought to be allocated with alternative sources of livelihood so that at least they can earn 2 square meals a day.
